The Shmuts is a small, independent blog that publishes an analysis of the NQ futures market every day before the market opens. It includes an analysis of the prior session, key levels, and my plan for the upcoming trading session. As a trader, I do this analysis every morning and believe this planning each day is a key factor in my success. Here, I intend to share this analysis with the world every day.

I am grateful to every reader who chooses to subscribe, and I want to make it easy to engage with me if needed. If, after reading the FAQ on this page, you still have unanswered questions, suggestions, or feedback on my analysis, please don’t hesitate to email me at theshmuts@gmail.com

Thank you for reading The Shmuts! I spend a lot of time writing the content you’re reading; if you find it informative, please consider subscribing and supporting my work.

FAQ

Why is this blog called “The Shmuts”?

Because it’s one of my favorite words, and it’s a lot more fun than “Daily NQ market analysis” as a title. “Shmuts” is a Yiddish word meaning “dirt” or “grime”. I make the connection by viewing my daily analysis as my way of giving you the “dirt” on the NQ futures market.

Why is it that sometimes your price values, such as Session High or Low, don’t match what I see on my chart?

I only trade during the NY session, also known as “regular trading hours”, which runs from 9:30am to 4:15pm EST. This blog is an extension of my daily prep, and since I only trade during this timeframe, I have learned through experience to only care about the values set during the NY session. I don’t consider overnight values valuable due to the lower volume, and the bulk of participants in the overnight trading session tend to be different than in the NY session. Essentially, I care more about what price values are influenced by the same participants trading during the session I trade.

What timeframe do you trade on?

I use three timeframes in my daily trading:

  1. I watch the Market Profile as it develops during the day on the 30-minute chart.

  2. I use the 15-minute chart to identify structure, levels and trends.

  3. I use the 2-minute chart for trade entries and exits.
